Our Challenge

Our Client wanted to launch a new product into their marketplace, but were tired of the old boring themes that everyone was suggesting like a James Bond Night or Vegas Night. They wanted something new and exciting that hadn’t been seen before, so they could launch to a select group of Clients and potential Customers.

At Pastiche, we pride ourselves on our creativity, and as such we don’t force themes on our Clients, but learn and understand our Clients’ needs and goals, to then create something special.

The product that was being launched was going to be called Cortez. During our research phase, we discovered that there was a Spanish Explorer circa. 1500 called Hernando Cortes, who was famous for is march across Mexico and conquering the Aztec Empire.

With these findings the idea was hatched to create one of our immersible themes, whereby we blur the lines between reality and fantasy.

Our Solution

We hired the Ashmoleon Museum in Oxford to stage the event. As the Ashmolean is the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683. Their world famous collections range from Egyptian mummies to contemporary art, telling human stories across cultures and across time.

We set up a treasure chest full of gold (chocolate coins all marked with the name Cortez and logo) as one of the exhibits, and had 2 guards complete with guns, safeguarding the perimeter. We ensured it blended in with the rest of the artefacts in that area of the Museum. Notices and posters were also put up around the Museum as Cortez Gold was on view for a limited time only.

As Guests arrived they were greeted by Aztec Fire Performers as well as an Aztec Snake Act, a Sword Ladder Performer and a Bed Of Nails Performer. Armed Guards were there to protect the gold and Patrons at the Museum.

The Presentation took place to officially launch the Cortez Product, after which, Guests were invited to enjoy the Museum. Guests had to walk through to Dinner past the guards and the “Gold” to get to the area, and had no idea whether the “Gold” was a real exhibit or not.

As Dinner was finishing, Guests heard a loud commotion and the firing of guns, as the dining room was taken hostage by Terrorists, who wanted to steal the gold amongst other artefacts. A live action stunt show took place in front of Guests (and involving guests), with bottles smashed, gun shots fired, armed combat assaults and the smashing up and using some of the exhibitions pieces (Luckily ones we had inadvertently set up previous for this moment).

The Results

Our Client was delighted that we had exceeded all their expectations of the event, stating also
